The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was the result of a June 2001 United Nations General Assembly special session on AIDS and a subsequent endorsement from the G8 group of nations in July, 2001. Along with the World Bank and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, it is the largest of the three major international funding agencies at work on AIDS.

Canada was a prime mover in the G8 group of countries’ commitment to increase aid to Africa at the organization’s last summit in Gleneagles, Scotland. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has praised Canada’s financial commitment while pleading for more money from donor nations.

Barrett House For 20 years the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd have run Barrett House, 35 Sydenham St., the first residential care facility in Toronto for people with HIV/AIDS. The house accommodates five residents who receive optional meal plans and pastoral care. The purpose is to provide residents with a supportive, safe family environment.
